How To Enter

The inaugural competition will run from June to August 2022 and the terms and conditions for participation this year are as follows:

CONTENT

  • Each submission must be an audio recording of a speech, of nomore than 5-minutes long, that the applicant delivered before a live audience of no less than 10 people.
  • Each submission must include the text of the recorded speech.
  • Each submission must align with the theme “Regional Integration.”
  • Each submission must be in English or French or Swahili or Portuguese.
  • Each submission must be original and previously unpublished.
  • Each submission must come from a unique applicant, as each applicant will be allowed to submit one entry only.

ELIGIBILITY

  • All SADC citizens aged between 18 and 35 residing within the SADC region or in diaspora can participate.
  • Each applicant must indicate the SADC country they are a citizen of and submit a copy of an ID as proof of the same

THE PRIZE

  • The winner of the Chakwera Prize for Public Speaking will receive a cash award of $4000.
  • The winner of the prize will be determined by a combination of points accrued from a public vote, points accrued from a panel of expert judges, and points accrued from His Excellency President Chakwera.

DATES

  • Entry Submission: June 1 to July 22, 2022
  • Prize Giving Ceremony: August 2022 during the SADC Heads of State meeting.

HOW TO SEND

Send your entries to:. submissions@chakweraprize.com. Materials to send:

  • An audio of your recorded speech in an MP3 format.
  • A script of your speech in Times New Roman, font size 12 and double spaced.
  • A photo showing you with the audience as you delivered the speech.
